What you can expect
Heat pumps are common across Cullman County because they do two jobs with one system: they move heat out of the house in summer and pull heat into it in winter. That year-round workload is exactly why a small problem can turn into a big one if nobody looks at it. A heat pump that is low on refrigerant, has a failing capacitor, or has a reversing valve that sticks will often keep running, just poorly, until the power bill or the comfort level tells you something is wrong.
Our approach is diagnostics first. Before we recommend any part or repair, we measure. We check refrigerant pressures and temperatures, test capacitors, contactors and wiring with meters, watch the system switch between heating and cooling, and confirm the defrost cycle is doing its job. Then we explain what we found in plain language so you can make the call with real information in front of you.
Winter is when most heat pump questions come up. Long run times on cold mornings are often normal, but a system that blows cool air, runs on auxiliary or emergency heat more than it should, or ices over and never clears is telling you something. Our blog covers auxiliary heat vs. emergency heat and why a heat pump runs constantly in cold weather if you want to read up before you call.
Summer brings its own set of problems. A heat pump in cooling mode works just like a central air conditioner, so warm air from the vents, a frozen indoor coil, or water around the air handler all deserve a look. If your issue is cooling only, our AC repair page covers what we check, and our general HVAC repair page covers the rest of the system.

Regular HVAC maintenance is the best way to keep a heat pump out of trouble, since it gets used in every season. And if a repair no longer makes sense, we can talk through replacement options with an honest look at both choices.
